Japanese memory manufacturer Elpida has started bragging about the fact that it managed to develop the world's smallest LPDDR2 DRAM, a 2Gb (2 Gigabit) DDR2 Mobile RAM chip which is set to be used in devices like smartphones and tablet PCs.
The 2Gb DRAM (ECB240ABBCN) is made using 40nm process technology, has a data transfer rate of 1066 Mbps, is powered at 1.2V, and can operate at -30 to 85 degrees Celsius.
Elpida's DDR2 chip is set to start sampling in August and will enter mass production in September. It will be available as a bare chip for MCPs (Multi-Chip Packages) and in PoP-type FBGA and 134-ball FBGA packages.
